Non-ANSI rain gear refers to hi-vis rain jackets or pants that are not certified under the ANSI/ISEA 107 standard for high-visibility safety apparel. These garments still feature bright colors and reflective accents to improve visibility, but they are best used in low-risk environments like warehouse work, deliveries, or general outdoor tasks where ANSI compliance isn’t required.
To remove wrinkles from your hi vis rain gear, never use a hot iron, as high heat can melt or damage the waterproof material. Instead, hang the garment in a warm, humid environment like a bathroom during a hot shower to help naturally release creases. You can also gently smooth out wrinkles by hand while the fabric is warm and slightly damp. Always check the care label before applying any heat or steam. Proper storage—hanging instead of folding—will also help prevent wrinkles long-term.
To wash your hi vis rain gear, always follow the care label instructions. Most rain gear should be machine washed in cold water on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or harsh chemicals, as they can break down the waterproof coating and damage reflective tape. Turn garments inside out before washing to help protect reflective areas. Air dry when possible, or tumble dry on low/no heat to preserve water resistance and ANSI compliance. For more tips, see our guide: How to Clean Reflective Clothing.
