To wash hi-vis safety apparel, always check the care label. Most garments can be machine washed in cold water on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which can damage reflective tape. Turn items inside out before washing to protect visibility elements. Air dry or tumble dry on low/no heat. OSHA requires workers in environments with vehicular traffic or moving equipment to wear high-visibility warning garments (29 CFR 1926.201). While OSHA doesn’t list each item (like shirts or jackets) by name, any ANSI/ISEA 107-compliant apparel—including vests, shirts, jackets, and rain gear—can be used to meet the visibility requirement.
